Simply entitled Hello Light ID. Buzz, this commercial from Volkswagen touches on the darkness of the recent past and the light that came from it.
As we’re required to deep dive into all things automotive, we’ve read thousands of press releases, have sat through countless presentations and viewed a host video previews and commercials. Generally speaking, the content of these bits are marketing ploys to sway opinions. And this “Hello Light” from Volkswagen may be the best of them all.
It immediately starts in darkness with a pair of radio announcers relating details on VW’s emission scandal which broke in September of 2015. After a sigh of despair, the music begins. But not just any tune: “The Sound of Silence” by Simon & Garfunkel.
If you pay close attention to the lyrics and the images in the video, you’ll notice that they line up perfectly. The video depicts, in a fictitious manner, how the ID. family of EVs and specifically, how the very cool ID. Buzz came to be.
The whole video lasts 1:45 minutes but goes by in mere seconds. Yes, it’s a romanticized depiction of the transition between darkness, the emission scandal, and the light, VW’s millions of upcoming EVs, but it certainly is a compelling and entertaining piece.
