Buying a used car from a dealership

You are going over a bunch of pre-owned vehicle ads, hoping to find the perfect used car or SUV for you, your family and your needs. These pre-owned vehicles are often sold at independent dealerships, but have you thought about looking at the inventory of new-car dealerships for, well, a pre-owned vehicle?

You may think prices will be higher, or that there won’t be as many choices available to you. Well, when it comes to the first point, the answer is not necessarily, and the second point, well, as long as you find the perfect car for you does it really matter how many other vehicles were standing beside it in line?

In fact, there are many reasons to do business with a new-car dealership, even when buying a pre-owned model.

For starters, when buying your used car from a dealer, you are dealing with an established merchant that will not close its doors overnight or ignore phone calls if something goes wrong. The fact of the matter is that new-vehicle dealerships are much more stable, and aren’t going anywhere. Can you say the same thing about that corner pre-owned lot on the outskirts of town?

Moreover, new dealerships have a lot to lose if there reputation is tarnished. They are more likely to want to make sure you spread to word about how great they are, as opposed to telling everyone in town you bought a lemon there.

Finally, new-vehicle dealerships can offer more financing options, and also offer extended warranties and services that are backed by the automaker in many cases. You therefore have more protection options to help you have greater peace of mind after your purchase.

As with anything, there are advantages and disadvantages to buying a pre-owned vehicle in a new-car dealership, but the idea is certainly worth exploring.
