The big news from VW at this year’s NAIAS is their I.D. Buzz Concept. The German Peoples’ Car Company has come under fire for emissions in the recent past and so is turning their attention to cutting them out altogether in the near future.
The I.D. Buzz is a fully electric modern interpretation of the ultra-cool Type 2 Bus. Unlike the original, this one does away with an air-cooled engine and replaces it with a pair of electric motors. The front and rear mounted units, motivated by a 111 kWh battery, combine to produce an impressive 369-horsepower that will propel the Buzz to 100 km/h in only 5 seconds. Best of all, the projected range will be of more than 400 km and an 80% charge will be attainable in 30 minutes. Tow words for VW: BUILD IT!
It appears that it’s never too late to join the hot crossover segments. Late last year, the large Atlas, hence its name, made it debut as VW’s largest ever product. Built at the Chattanooga, TN. plant, the Atlas will compete with the likes of the Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer and Hyundai Santa Fe XL.
The previous VW Tiguan suffered a size complex when compared to its competition. No more, says Volkswagen! The new next generation Tiguan now features a longer wheelbase capable of taking on two extra spots. The optional 7-seater version will be the nameplate’s top trim with various different accents to differentiate it from the 5-seaters.
