2019 or 2020: a tough decision

You have just arrived at the dealership, looking to purchase a particular model. To your surprise, there are two versions of a given model available to you: a 2019 model and a 2020 variant. Is there a difference between each option? The answer is yes, even if the vehicles seem identical. Here’s how you choose between a 2019 and 2020 model.

Financial

Dealerships will want to get their 2016 models out the door as soon as possible and they will likely have more negotiation flexibility. Moreover, automakers also want to get the 2019 models on the road quickly, and will probably offer better incentives and financing plans.

Resale value

A 2019 model will have a lower resale value down the road than a 2020 model, even if both are sold on the same day, just because of the perception that one is older than the other.

Equipment

There may be differences between 2019 and 2020 models when it comes to equipment. Either the 2020 is completely redesigned, or changed its trim options. Either way, make sure you know what equipment you want in your vehicle so that you can choose between each available model if the option is presented to you.
