2017 NAIAS: The whole clan will love the new 2018 Honda Odyssey

Without a shadow of a doubt, the minivan is the most versatile, easy-to-live-with vehicle for any and all families. Although most expect the segment to die, Honda’s not about to drop its loyal minivan fans

2018 Honda Odyssey

The 2018 Honda Odyssey is far more “new” than a first glance would indicate. The vehicle’s underpinnings are completely fresh and now feature ultra-high-strength steel, aluminum and magnesium to not only cut down on weight but also improve torsional rigidity. In other words, the new Odyssey will be quieter, safer and better to drive.

The cabin has been upgraded on numerous points starting with a revised dashboard and some very functional new Magic Slide 2nd-row seats that transform the rear of the van from cargo-friendly to an up-close and personal environment for its owners.

With connectivity and safety in mind, Honda has endowed the Odyssey with loads of accessories which, depending on selected trim, can include the likes of CabinWatch and CabinTalk; Display Audio touchscreen and 4G LTE WIFI. On the safety front, the van includes a barrage of Honda Sensing safety features.

In the name of efficiency and performance, the Odyssey will be powered by a revised 3.5-liter V6 now equipped with direct injection. Its newfound 280-horsepower output will be channelled through a pair of new transmissions beginning with a 9-speed automatic for lesser trims. A 10-speed transmission will do the job on higher versions and should improve acceleration and fuel economy.
