This summer many of us leave for a well-deserved holiday. If you choose to take your car to go with the family to the beach or elsewhere, there is a good chance that you will driving quite a bit on the highway. Going on vacation with your car is generally more affordable than taking the plane to go relax in another country, for example, but the fact remains that we must still consider the cost of gasoline that can be significant.
So to help you reduce your fuel bill during your summer vacation, here are some tips to follow. Note that these tips apply to highway driving mainly, though they also work in the city. It’s just that on the highway you will see a bigger difference.
Check your tires
“Improperly inflated tires automatically increase your fuel consumption, whether they are under-inflated or over-inflated,” says a service technician at Bathurst Honda. It is therefore important to ensure that our vehicle rides on tires inflated to the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you drive several hundred kilometers, remember to check your tires before you leave and again once when you stop for lunch.
Open the windows
Air conditioning increases fuel consumption too. Obviously it sometimes gets very hot in the summer so it is understandable to want to turn it on, but if it’s not too hot outside, consider lowering the windows instead of putting on the air conditioning. Some would say that you increase the air resistance which is not completely false, but it is still more beneficial than to continually call upon air conditioning.
Follow the speed limits
Even if you cannot wait to get there, following the speed limits will have a significant impact on the fuel consumption of your vehicle. You lose a few minutes of beach time, but you gain a lot in terms of liters of gasoline.
