New record for the Honda Civic Type R on the Nürburgring

Slowly, but surely the 2017 Honda Civic Type R is on its way. We saw it as a prototype for about six months, then we learned that it would have 306 horsepower, and now we know it is the fastest front-wheel drive to ever lap the famous Nürburgring.

In short, it’s just one more bit of information for Type R fanatics and eager auto journalists to go nuts about as they patiently wait to get behind the wheel of the first ever Civic Type R to cross the Atlantic.

The Civic Type R didn’t just break the old record that belonged to the Golf GTi Clubsport S, it pulverized it. With a time of 7:43.8, the Type R beat the Volkswagen by almost 5 seconds. The Civic’s is even faster than the all-wheel-driven Focus RS.
