The popular B9 Audi A4 will enter its 4th year of production with technology upgrades, mild-hybrid powertrains and styling.

The Audi A4 is the other large compact luxury saloon in a segment dominated by the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class. Both the 3 and C and new or very new which meant the A4 was lagging behind somewhat but that’s about to change.

For the 2020 model year, the A4 will sport the A5 and A6’s (to name but these two) sculpted hood design, sportier LED headlights, and a wider yet shorter grille that emphasises muscle and poise.

On board, connectivity and display screens take center stage. An available 10.1-inch high-resolution TFT display will serve as the core go-to screen for everything from smartphone integration, navigation and to control the optional Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System.

The driver will face combinations of analogue and digital instrument panels or the fully configurable and digital Audi virtual cockpit plus. This same driver will have some control over one of a number of engines that will feature a 12-volt mild-hybrid system (MHEV) system.

Although there will be two diesel options elsewhere in the world, we’re likely to be limited to the 45 TFSI turbocharged 2.0-litre engine currently offered in the 2019 Audi A4. This means that it is highly unlikely that we will see the return of the S4 as it will solely be powered by a 347PS turbocharged 3.0-litre TDI, yes diesel, engine.

As part of the new on-road experience, the A4 will be equipped with a choice of suspensions, from a standard or sport suspension along with one two adaptive suspensions. One of the adaptive suspensions will be about comfort suspension with damper control and will lower the ride height by 10mm. The other will be a sport suspension which will lower the car by 23mm.

No specific details are available for the Canadian market. We will surely find out more as we get closer to next year.
