MINI added more power to the John Cooper Works Clubman and the John Cooper Works Countryman for 2020.

Do not be surprised if you come across a 2020 livery of the two most utilitarian models of the British brand – the MINI John Cooper Works Clubman and the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman – and you find they are much faster during acceleration.

Right now, the current JCW versions were not half-bad with their 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine good for 228 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, but that’s it, we’re still living at a time when the power of what’s under the hood matters a lot, especially in a model that wears the JCW crest.

The manufacturer has therefore enhanced its offer for the coming year, the two MINI long roofs will take advantage of the same 4-cylinder turbo engine used in the BMW X2 M35i, unveiled earlier this year. With 302 horsepower under the right foot and 332 lb-ft of optimal torque, the two new MINI John Cooper Works should not have too much trouble to shoot the 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, an improvement of 1, 4 seconds compared to the current model of the Clubman. The heavier Countryman needs 0.2 seconds more to reach the speed limit on our highways. The top speed has also been increased to 250 km/h.

The problem, for the regulars of the manual transmission, is that the six-speed gearbox is retired with this transition to a more dynamic mechanics. Indeed, MINI will limit its offer to the unique eight-speed Steptronic automatic unit, used pretty much everywhere at BMW. The latter, which has been reworked for the occasion, is also teaming with a new self-locking differential for the front wheels, for increased traction. Speaking of motor skills, the ALL4 all-wheel drive system is also part of the formula for 2020. And, unsurprisingly, the AWD is also revised for the two most powerful MINIs in the lineup.

For now, the Canadian wing has not yet confirmed the arrival of the two new models, but it would be very surprising that these two spicy models are not gonna travel here since they are already in the catalogue of MINI Canada for 2019 … without the modifications listed above!
