NEW CAR: Recharge your electric vehicle’s batteries in your living room

Electric cars face many challenges, one of which is charging in an urban environment. Althout there are more charging stations in cities, many condo owners or those who live in apartments can’t install charging stations at home.

A Swedish company called Uniti thinks it may have found a solution. It is a removable battery pack that the user can take with him or her after having parked at home or at the office. These batteries can then be charged using a traditional power outlet.

The 2.2 kWh battery in question weighs about 10 kilos, and it allows the car that it powers to travel about 30 kilometers. According to Uniti, this is more than enough for most city commutes.

The electric vehicle itself has two seats and its design is right out of a science fiction movie. The whole idea is still in the initial stages, but Siemens is behind the project so there is no reason to believe it will not be completed.
