Recently, General Motors added 850,000 vehicles to an important recall announced on February 13. Adding to the Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5 and 2005-2007 Pontiac Pursuit involved in the first recall, are the 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, 2006-2007 Saturn Sky, 2006-2007 Pontiac and the 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR.
The problem is with the ignition which, due to the vibrations caused by either poor road conditions or a heavy keyset, could force the key into the off position. Should that happen, the engine shuts down along with the electronic systems, preventing the airbags from deploying.
According to the American manufacturer, 31 accidents causing 13 deaths are linked to this issue.
Alan Batey, President of General Motors North America, apologized deeply for this defect and reassured the public that everything is being done to correct the problem as soon as possible.
