SURVEY: Buyers want 480 kilometers of range before buying an electric vehicle

According to a recent Autolist survey that reached 14,500 respondents, the most desirable range to consider the purchase of an electric vehicle would be 480 kilometers, or 300 miles. Indeed, 57 percent of respondents said they would not hesitate to buy an electric vehicle if it could drive at least 480 kilometers before needing to recharge.

Only 14.6 percent of respondents would strongly consider an EV if its range was 320 kilometers or less. At present, only Tesla offers models with this type of range. The new Chevrolet Bolt offers 383 kilometers.

The battery’s range is the primary criterion for choosing an EV for 34.2 percent of respondents. Price was the second most important element, while the lack of charging stations and charging times were also cited by some respondents.

This survey confirms what many already know. Increase the range of electric cars, and you will sell more of them.
