The new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta!
Volkswagen continues to target the North American markets with specific products. Following closely on the heels of the all-new 2018 Atlas and Tiguan is the equally new, some would say long overdue, MK7 Jetta.
Although the Golf has always been the quintessential Volkswagen, the Jetta is nonetheless quite a successful car for the German giant. Since 1979, more than 17,500,000 have been built and sold around the world. In the US, it turns out that it is one of their best-selling nameplates.
In order to maintain the car’s position, the new Jetta is larger than before, with shorter overhangs and more attitude than ever. Now based on VW’s highly modular MQB platform, the car should be far more agreeable to drive, not that it ever lacked handling or refinement-wise.
Longer, wider and taller, the Jetta features loads of room for five passengers and includes more technology than ever. Perhaps the most interesting is the gorgeous Volkswagen Digital Cockpit available on specific trims. Otherwise, accessories such as VW’s Car-Net system with App-Connect for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink and the available 400-watt BeatsAudio system can come together to make this Jetta the best equipped ever.
Powering the new 2019 Volkswagen compact sedan is the brand’s 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. With 147 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, performance should be spritely. Transmission options reside between a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic.
US pricing for the base is set at $18,545 which is less than the outgoing model. In Canada, the base Jetta was set at just over $16k. No word yet about pricing but we should see the car in showrooms by late spring or early summer.
