The endless desire for crossover from the car buying public the world over is inspiring automotive brands to push utility vehicle design boundaries. The T-ROC is the German giant’s latest CUV and it positions itself just below the recently arrived Tiguan.
Although there are great similarities between the compact T-ROC and the Audi Q2, the VW features some very distinct styling features. The front fascia is an evolved and sportier design over that of the Tiguan. The rear end is also far more expressive, reflecting the more playful nature of the vehicle. Between the two extremities, the T-ROC rocks some chrome that runs from the A- to the C-pillars following the roofline. The wheel arches and side sills features dank plastic trim much like what we find on the Tiguan and Alltrack. To top it all off, the T-ROC will be available with a two-tone paint scheme with a contrasting roof depending on trim.
The cabin is a mix of functionality and style loaded with technology. Among the niceties are an Active Info Display, a large central infotainment system and Volkswagen Car Net for access to a wide spectrum of online services and apps. The trunk is generous for a vehicle this size as it offers 445 liters of useable space.
Unfortunately, there’s no indication that the 2018 VW T-ROC will be offered in North America but for those that will be able to spec one out before their purchase, they’ll have the option to select between six powertrains (three petrol and three diesel). Petrol (TSI) and diesel (TDI) outputs will range from 113 horsepower, 148 horsepower and end with the range topping 197 horsepower. 6-speed manual and DSG gearboxes are available as are FWD or VW’s 4MOTION 4WD.
