Buying a used car is not always a simple process. When one is buying a new car, you know exactly what you are getting. The car has a warranty, no mileage and has never been driven before. No one was behind the wheel to damage it. That is not the case with a pre-owned vehicle that has been driven by someone else in the past who may not have had the same attention to quality as you do.
Therefore, how can you make sure the pre-owned car or SUV you are about to buy will serve your needs well? You need to glance in the past and have a look at the vehicle’s history report.
What kind of information can you find in this report? All kinds really. Firstly, you can ensure that the car is not loaned to another person who, if they manage to transfer ownership to you, will also in effect transfer their debt or their collateral.
A vehicle history report, however, is a lot more than just financial information. It brings together, for example, all insurance claims concerning the vehicle you are considering. Any claim or any police report on the car will be specified, with the dates and circumstances. The data comes from hundreds of records from insurers across North America.
“The VHR also tracks the number of owners the vehicle has had, and its service and maintenance history. You may not always see which service was performed, but you will see when it was undertaken (if it was done in an authorized dealership) which in turn provides a clearer picture of the car’s condition” says a sales representative at !!!! You will also see if the vehicle was stolen at some point.
And finally, you will get a detailed recall history and you will learn if the previous owner underwent the repairs prescribed by the manufacturer.
